Colombia. A few days ago, 120 private cameras were installed that will be integrated into the city's public video surveillance system.
The devices were installed in the town of Barrios Unidos. They seek to implement a thousand cameras.
Mayor Gustavo Petro reported that "Bogotá enters the system of safe cities through the interconnection of thousands of cameras," which will be installed within the framework of the project 'Human Connection, Bogotá more protected'.
The objective of this initiative is for the authorities to be able to carry out greater monitoring in the streets of the city in order to reduce the rates of violence. Petro reported that Bogotá already has 400 public chambers and pointed out that to reach the goal of 1,000 it is necessary to have the support of private companies.
For his part, the manager of the Surveillance and Security Fund of Bogotá, FVS, Máximo José Noriega Rodríguez, invited citizens to report to the Police the addresses of all places where there are security cameras that are facing outside to add them in the inventory.
