Colombia. The Minister of Housing, Luis Felipe Henao; the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Carillo; and the Director General of the Police, General Roberto León Riaño; signed a million-dollar agreement for more than 15 billion pesos (about US$8.4 million) to provide security in the free housing projects and social housing macro projects that are being carried out in Colombia for low-income families.
"What we intend with this union of efforts is to reach the most humble homes in the country with more than houses, to be able to offer them quality and safety urban facilities, which improve the coexistence of the communities," said the Minister of Housing, Luis Felipe Henao, who reiterated that initially 15 cities will be sheltered, among which are: Cali, Jamundí, Buenaventura, Cartagena, Cúcuta, Montería, Neiva, Pasto, Pereira, Santa Marta, Sincelejo, Soacha, Soledad, Barranquilla and Valledupar.
In each of the housing projects of these populations, police stations or Immediate Attention Centers (CAI) will be built, which will be complemented by strategically located security cameras and the reinforcement of community surveillance by quadrants and citizen coexistence.
"The housing policy has so far been the most successful of the Santos Government in terms of social investment and, therefore, this agreement is of an integral nature because it goes beyond just building homes"; said the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Carrillo, during the signing of the agreement.
Meanwhile, Minister Luis Felipe Henao indicated that this new security initiative will be integrated with sports, health and education facilities that are also being advanced in priority and social housing projects.
"It is worth remembering that the Ministry of Housing has already signed agreements with Coldeportes, the Ministry of Information Technologies, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, all with a view to ensuring that the poorest Colombians who receive a house can significantly improve their quality of life," said the Minister of Housing. Luis Felipe Henao.
