11/01/12. The Herri Eskola of Elorrio will soon have a system of security cameras outside the center to "prevent a repeat of the numerous acts of vandalism registered last year," said the deputy mayor, Joseba Mujika. The assailants, in addition to generating significant damage to the enclosure, took over various computer equipment used in the classes. The video surveillance project, partially subsidized by the Basque Government, will involve a disbursement of 16,000 euros.
In addition, the exterior aesthetics of the center will also be changed, from the middle of the year, with the installation on the façade of insulating and protective sheets of "the excessive sunlight that enters the classrooms", which will allow it to be adapted to the current and future educational needs that the implementation of Eskola 2.0 requires in terms of infrastructure, at the same time that it will result in a greater protection of the enclosure against possible looting.
This action will cost 522,000 euros of which a total of 322,000 will also be financed by the Department of Education. "The Herri Eskola has more and more computers and material of greater value, so it is necessary to preserve its safety," said the mayor, Ana Otadui.
Therefore, after the robberies registered in 2011, those responsible for the Herri Eskola and the Consistory agreed on a series of measures to maximize control in the center, among which was the placement of the cameras. "We just need to determine with the address the place and the amount you want to put," Mujika explained.

Another of the agreed solutions was the installation of sheets along the entire façade of the complex, which among other functions, will prevent thieves from easily accessing the interior of the building. "Many of the robberies that the school suffered in 2011 were committed by climbing the façade, where they entered with some ease. With the new wrapping they will have it much more difficult," he said. Only in the last year, the Consistory has disbursed a total of 22,300 euros for the repair of the glass broken by the cacos in the Herri Eskola.
This double façade will also facilitate the use of new technologies by students. "The excessive sunlight prevents the proper viewing of the digital whiteboards, and as a consequence, until now, schoolchildren had to lower the blinds to be able to use them in class. The new panels will provide adequate lighting conditions and will result in a modernist building, "said the first mayor.
