Brazil. Technological innovations, investment in infrastructure and improvements in security will bring with it the 2014 Football World Cup. The strengthening of 4G networks and the implementation of biometric systems for stadium entry are two of the most outstanding measures.
To achieve this, the government will make an investment of US$111 million for the development of telecommunications infrastructure, with the goal of having 4G communications in all the host cities of the event.
On the subject of security, it highlights the integration of the local police into a high-capacity communications network that will connect headquarters, stadiums, customs and patrols, in addition to allowing the exchange of information with Interpol.
Massato Takakura, sales director of NEC Brazil, told América Económica magazine that "the safety of visitors will be one of the most outstanding factors, for which there will be a control center that will take care of everything, especially inside the stadiums, where high-definition cameras will instantly detect any suspicious behavior."
It is also foreseen that the entrance to the stadiums will be carried out with the help of a biometric system, with which through fingerprints it will be possible to instantly verify the background of the person. As for the storage of data, both during the World Cup and the Olympic Games, a cloud-based system will be used.
