16/08/2011. Gloria Guevara Manzo, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), pointed out the need to standardize the issuance of security alerts in the world since there are "confusions" among travelers.
"Today there is no international standard for generating or issuing alerts... that they are as precise and specific as possible because many times they cause great confusion," he said.
He said that according to federal government security figures, the problems are concentrated in only 80 of the country's more than two thousand municipalities.
"Yes there have been some alerts, but if we read them in detail, in those alerts we see what is an alert and a travel warning, we have about three or four categories, one is where they recommend caution when traveling somewhere, and another is where they recommend leaving the indispensable trips to that place, then the lack of a standard causes a lot of confusion, " Said.
In a press conference to present the results of the work tours he undertook through Brazil, Russia and the United States, Guevara denied that insecurity is a "topic of conversation" that has come out during the visit to those countries.
Guevara Manzo said that based on figures from the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), he reported that in the first half of 2011 11 million 440 thousand international tourists arrived in our country, which represented an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Intense holidays
Ricardo Anaya, undersecretary of tourism planning, said that at the end of this summer holiday period the initial expectations will be exceeded.
He pointed out that hotel occupancy in the holiday period to July has registered an increase of 30 percent, while the number of tourists has an increase of 2.5 percent compared to 2010.
Prior to the holiday season, the Sectur projected a spill of 250,600 million pesos in the country, through an estimated 48.4 million tourists, although Guevara said that at the end of the month he will make the cut to know the real increase.
Adventure tourism
The next world summit of adventure tourism will require an investment of almost one billion pesos by the federal and state governments, as well as by the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples (CDI).
The latter agency will invest 650 million pesos in the project, while the State Ministry of Tourism will contribute another 225 million pesos, which will be added to the 123 million pesos that the federal Sectur will put.
In this sense, the Ministry of Tourism reported that adventure tourism activities represent a market of 90 billion dollars in the world.
This summit will be held from October 17 to 20 in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.
