England. A British company has developed a camera that can detect explosives, weapons and drugs hidden under clothing at a distance of up to 25 meters. The camera, dubbed the T5000, could be used in security systems at airports, train stations and other CCTV systems.
The system, developed by the company ThruVision, is normally used by astronomers to study dying stars. According to its inventors, although the T5000 can "see" through clothing, it does not reveal people's physical details or subject them to any "harmful radiation" such as that associated with security systems that use X-rays.
The camera uses "passive imaging technology" to identify the natural electromagnetic rays, known as terahertz rays or T-rays, that objects emit. The T5000 was exhibited on March 12 and 13 at a scientific exhibition organized by the British government.
