The Kerberus of Cali

El Fuerte Ltda., through its telecommunications division, introduces to the market a revolutionary alarm monitoring equipment that allows you to receive events by different means of telecommunication.

Ompetron Kerberus, is the name that has been given to a new alarm event reception equipment capable of processing signals from different technological means of communication such as internet, GSM telephony and traditional monitoring via telephone; in a maximum processing time of seven seconds that has even been reduced to the three-second barrier.

Ompetron Kerberus is the integration of hardware and software that enables the reception, management and audit of alarm events received in a monitoring center. For the reception of alarms, Kerberus has three communication modules that allow it to receive alarms through the public fixed telecommunications network or PSTN, using telephone primary (telephone system with 30 digital channels) that are fiber optic link; by an alarm reception module via GSM and by an alarm reception module via TCP/IP, with which conventional alarms can be monitored, adapting them so that the sending of their signals is through the Internet or a data channel.

Telephone monitoring module
This new monitoring system has telephone trunk support in both analog telephony (FXO ports) and digital telephony with telephone primary (E1's), capable of using up to 240 telephony channels in eight primary ones. It also has an automatic call manager or ACD which allows to dynamize alarm requests, that is, this system can manage the incoming calls made by the alarm panels according to the desired protocol without giving a waiting tone or busy tone.

Through its 240 channels, and based on the telephone monitoring standard that is speculated at a value of 150 to 200 subscribers per line, this receiver will be able to manage 25,000 accounts efficiently, taking into account that the primary telephones are mostly fiber optic links, which guarantees a very fine and fast communication that translates into better service for the clients of El Fuerte Ltda.

Gsm monitoring module
Jorge Mario Lenis, project manager of El Fuerte Ltda, explains that Kerberus' event reception system has two GSM monitoring architectures; its first architecture and perhaps the most common is the installation of GSM plants as FXO telephony trunks, through which coverage of up to 24 GSM lines can be achieved. The second architecture is the native mobile phone support, which allows up to four sim cards to be inserted into the equipment, affecting the operating costs of an alarm monitored via GSM, since the call would be made from cell line to cell in both architectures.

Monitoring module via TCP/IP
TCP/IP is a set of layers that make up the Internet standard. Kerberus is able to monitor alarms using this type of protocol, implementing both the IPv4 protocol which allows support for up to 2.7 million IP addresses and the IPv6 which supports four trillion of these addresses. Similarly, each IP address is for Kerberus a subscriber or a client, so it can monitor up to four billion clients on a single computer. Likewise, Kerberus monitors every 1.33 seconds in link via IP corroborating that the subscriber is online. Through IP monitoring, five-second times can be guaranteed in a standard transmission.

More than a power plant
As already mentioned, Kerberus is able to audit the process of receiving and attending to alarm events. Through the UPS Interactive Management System, which is accessible via the web, you can know details of the events such as date, time, source or telephone number where the call comes from, the destination and the general duration of the call. But this does not end here; Kerberus has a communication module which allows you to use the telephone channels to support the functions of the security operator that manages alarm events, making it possible to obtain the record of calls made to civil support entities or to the people who own the security system; detailing each communication as it happens with alarm events, but adding the possibility of listening and recording in digital format the telephone calls of the operators.

Through the UPS you can know real statistics of alarm behavior with graphs that allow you to see the hours in which there is greater signal traffic and thus measure the number of agents necessary to attend the signals.

The event management mechanism is done through a database manager that allows you to store different details of the event such as the classification and priority of the event. Using the manager and the UPS, alarm detection can be given to those subscribers who are not part of the official list of the company, thus reducing requests to the monitoring center and reflecting reduction in congestion due to events classified as undesirable.

Distance coverage and data transmission

Kerberus by supporting transmission via TCP/IP breaks down geographical barriers to monitor and receive alarm events anywhere in the world over the Internet; this is possible thanks to the installation of an adapter that converts any panel that transmits by Contact ID to IP, at relatively low costs compared to those currently on the market. It can also be integrated with wireless technologies such as WiFi or last mile technologies such as Wimax, optimizing and reducing alarm monitoring costs.

The present and the future
Currently, Kerberus has been installed as the only alarm receiving center in El Fuerte Ltda. providing coverage and service to its more than 2400 customers, whether monitored via telephone, GSM or IP, thus proving to be a reliable equipment for mission-critical tasks in security. In the near future, a new digital monitoring system will be integrated using a data channel from Motorola's iDEN network which operates in Colombia with Avantel S.A., thus providing a new monitoring option on the same equipment.
