Dear readers,
Again we go to this space to review some of the phenomena that occur in the security industry. Fortunately, many of them are positive, such as the one we are going to address in this editorial, which could basically be defined as the attenuation of the borders of application of security technology.
This could be explained by the increasing number of uses that can be given to those equipment that were once designed to protect the integrity and property of human beings. There are many examples that confirm this.
In CCTV there are certain evolutions. What was previously used for video surveillance, is now being applied to increase business productivity, in addition to other marketing purposes that have been added to them. Now, it is not that these uses are new, but it is precisely in recent years when they are becoming widespread. Thus, it is common for companies to install CCTV cameras, not only to protect, but also to verify that employees are in their jobs, or in other cases verify that they are performing for the tasks they were hired.
Likewise, supermarkets can use this equipment to verify which sections of the establishment are the most visited, in order to set the negotiation prices with suppliers, or even determine which hours are the ones that offer the greatest flow of visitors to the business. Access control teams are also finding new uses. Biometric devices, for example, beyond identity verification, are increasingly being used to measure worker attendance and to control the number of hours worked, in such a way as to reduce fraud for overtime charges not worked.
Perhaps all these applications are not new, but what they do demonstrate is that security technology can perfectly expand its functional limits, a fact that is in itself an advantage for manufacturers of such equipment, since they have at their disposal a wide range of sectors in which they can do business. How far will security technology go? The limit is set by creativity.
