The Caribbean. HID Global announced that it will be responsible for providing e-passports to Barbados over the next 3 years. With a design that will reflect its cultural elements, but also the change of the country to an independent republic.
The benefits of Barbados' new e-passports are: reduced identity theft, asymmetric data encryption that decreases fraud, usability that contributes to faster passenger flow, and three identity verification options. It should be noted that, according to Henley's passport index, this small island has the most influential passport in the Caribbean region.
Wilfred Abrahams, Minister of the Interior of Barbados, indicated that his government was excited about working with HID Global, to finalize the design of the new notebook and implement the disaster recovery site; a space that would be located at the airport and would aim to ensure commercial continuity, in case the main passport issuance center is compromised.
The contracted intervention also includes technological updates, the Integrale software to manage the issuance process and encrypt the data, as well as printers, encoders to customize the notebooks and support for the main emission point.
Craig Sandness, Senior Vice President and Director of Secure Issuance and Citizen Identification Solutions at HID Global, said: "We are proud of the partnership with Barbados as the country's passport providers and would like to congratulate the Barbadian people for taking this historic step."
