International. HID Global announced the purchase of Access-IS, a provider of miniature reading devices, with which HID will expand its portfolio of solutions and its expansion in vertical markets.
For more than three decades, Access-IS has developed barcode reading and image processing solutions to scan documents up to NFC (Near Field Communication) and EMV (Europay/Mastercard/Visa Standard) for mobile ticket issuance. The company has marketed a number of devices that are used worldwide, in major cities and countries, in different essential vertical markets, including finance, transportation and government.

By having the same strategic orientation of our Extended Access Technologies division and HID's transportation and ticketing solutions of our Identification Technologies division, Access-IS enhances HID's leadership position in the industry, while placing us in a favorable position to grow in different markets that are attractive to us." said Björn Lidefelt, Managing Director of HID Global.
With his arrival, the company expands HID's product and technology portfolio with renowned solutions that are used worldwide:
• More than 100 million transactions processed daily through Access-IS products. Its installed base includes more than 20,000 systems used in public transport and ticketing worldwide.
• More than 50,000 users of its identification and security solutions (e-passport readers, electronic IDs and electronic driver's licenses for government and commercial applications).
• Facilities at more than 200 airports, including 20 of the world's top 30 airports, and used by many of the world's leading airlines.
In addition to leveraging Access-IS's existing vertical markets, HID said it will employ the company's technology to drive further expansion. In addition, Access-IS's contactless payment EMV readers will expand HID's offering in the financial sector as well as other markets.
Access-IS was founded in 1985 and is headquartered in Reading, UK. Access-SI's team of 120 employees serving customers in more than 200 countries has a strong strategic ability to enable fast, accurate and reliable identification and payments in integrated solutions.
Access-IS is now a business unit within HID's Extended Access Technologies division, led by Steve Currie, Vice President and Managing Director.
