Mexico. The transition from the acquisition of goods to that of services is increasingly palpable. From the own car to the leased; from the own office to the shared one; from the own computer equipment to that supplied by specialized companies, the examples follow each other. The trend is accelerating with the challenges of the new normal. The term 'servitization' was first introduced in 1982 almost 40 years ago and can only be considered a widespread adoption today... Just in time?
According to INEGI, there are 5 million economic units in Mexico. Almost half correspond to small businesses (2.2 million); the rest is divided between manufacturing industry (604 thousand), health services (234 thousand), wholesale trade (165 thousand), financial services (97 thousand), transport (42 thousand), construction (25 thousand) among others. All forced by circumstances to modify and adapt workspaces to implement health and hygiene measures due to the new normal derived from COVID-19. They are also obliged to monitor that the measures are complied with. Thus, given the need for rapid implementation, servitization aims to be the most efficient compliance path.
Faced with the infeasibility of each economic unit having its own surveillance infrastructure, companies transform their business models to provide the service to users. Leonardo Urich, Bosch solutions manager in Mexico, comments: "Bosch Soluciones (BOS) works to adapt existing security systems, call it video surveillance, access control, voice, among others, to also fulfill the purpose of health."
As companies look for the best way to return to business, Bosch has developed two potential solutions.
vital in the new normal: mask detection and social distance verification using intelligent video surveillance. The solutions are adaptable in existing video surveillance equipment. With some modifications in the hardware and software the cameras are able to issue alerts when a person does not properly use the protective equipment or when the workers do not comply with the healthy distance.
"The interesting thing is that instead of dealing with the complexity of acquiring the equipment and operating it independently in such a short period of time, companies 'servitize' through Bosch to have expeditiously the installation of an entire system, maintenance and monitoring necessary to face the new reality," concluded Urich.
