Surveon increases safety at Omnilife plant

altFood Supplement Factory Installs a Megapixel Recording System with Surveon's Point-to-Point Video Surveillance Solutions.

by Surveon*

The complexity of integration of an IP Video Surveillance System and the need for large recording capacity once meant for R.G.  Distribuciones, a distributor of security solutions in Colombia, a problem to win projects such as security systems in Omnilife, which required a reliable megapixel system of 48 channels and continuous recording capacity of up to 120 days.

With the support of Surveon's megapixel solutions, the security system of the Omnilife factory in Colombia was successfully updated without any problems in the integration or recording of IP cameras. With the use of the NVR2000 Series, the user has hardware RAID options for recordings, real-time Video Analytics, and support for industrial-grade megapixel cameras, which gave the integrator reliability and stability to offer a solution to the end user, while minimizing costs and management efforts.

Customer
Omnilife is a leading Mexican company in the production of high quality nutritional supplements for nutritional control, weight loss, energizers, detoxifiers, beauty and personal care. Omnilife owns one of the world's largest dietary supplement manufacturing plants and has a presence in 20 countries, including the United States, Brazil and Spain. In Colombia, it owns an export and processing factory in the city of Caloto, Cauca.

Challenges
At Omnilife's caloto facility, the number of environments that were not being monitored with a comprehensive solution were several. Traditional DVR solutions were not able to include all the solutions to the new video surveillance needs, and the company began to look for an advanced system that would improve the security of the factory. The fact that megapixel cameras offer up to 6 times more quality than the image given by analog cameras convinced Omnilife to upgrade its systems with megapixel solutions for factory control.

"We had to deal with many issues from hardware integration to software configuration," says Luis Fernando Arbelaez of R.G. Distribuciones, Surveon's certified distributor in Colombia. "A project like this is usually a headache for integrators. For example, software is typically unstable working 24/7 on a commercial PC, as well as integration and storage configuration are extremely difficult for traditional security installers. We must commit additional time and resources to the integration and maintenance of the system, and all efforts ultimately involve a higher cost to the end customer.

Megapixel solutions obviously offer significant benefits for video surveillance operations. However, the large number of megapixel cameras and the need for 120-day recording involve many issues of importance to integrators, including the I/O performance of traditional NVRs, the stable integration of storage systems, and certified solutions that can ensure point-to-point integration.

Solutions
"A proven solution with peer-to-peer verification can save time, effort and costs in risk management," says Arbeláez.

To address all of these challenges successfully, R.G. Distributions adopted Surveon's megapixel solutions, including IP cameras, RAID NVR, IP storage, and enterprise video management software.

The cameras were installed on the perimeter of the factory and production areas to have a better monitoring of the environments: the CAM2400 and CAM2320 fixed cameras for Day/Night use, the CAM4220 dome camera, and the CAM6160 speed dome camera for external video surveillance. The network video recording system was managed by Surveon's NVR2048 model, which offers recording of up to 48 megapixel channels and 36 hard drives for storage of video content for 120 days.

Surveon's hardware RAID NVR makes capturing, analyzing, managing, and searching videos easier and faster.  Its video analytics detection has a pre-configured basis for a number of scenarios, such as intrusion detection inside and outside the factory, control of important doors or detection on parking lots. The NVR distinguishes what is really important, transforming video surveillance videos into useful information. Recorded events are analyzed and labeled with details such as time, date, address, color, and size of objects.

Proceeds
Improving Security with Point-to-Point Solutions "Surveon's solutions exceeded expectations for this project," says Arbeláez. "The megapixel NVR with hardware RAID support offers extraordinary quality recording and playback, and most importantly meets the customer's needs for 120-day recording. Additionally, Surveon's enterprise-grade video analytics transforms the passive monitoring mechanism into active detection, and pursues incidents such as theft or vandalism that can be detected in time, improving the efficiency of security management."

Simplify integration and provide reliability
With megapixel video surveillance emerging as a key trend in the market, what system integrators really need is a highly integrated and certified solution that can solve storage capacity and efficiency issues.

"Surveon is the best option available due to its 100% in-house production and 3-year warranty," says Arbeláez. Surveon's highly integrated solutions, including megapixel cameras and NVRs with hardware RAID, not only streamlined project planning for system integrators with high integration and stability, but also met the needs for full service support. "Working with Surveon, we have reduced integration risks and saved efforts and costs in verifying the solution. As a result, we have increased our competitiveness in the management of megapixel projects", concludes the guest.
