Brazil. The airport is using Zebra's RFID/RTLS technology to control ramp access in real time and improve the traceability of its assets, staff and management, while reducing operating costs.
Zebra Technologies Corporation announced that it is collaborating with GTP-EazyComm and Brazilian airport operator Infraero in the execution of a GPS sensor-based system to monitor and control ramp access at Brazil's Congonhas Airport. The innovative solution tracks in real time all vehicles and personnel on the ramp so that aircraft are serviced at the right time and with the right resources.
Infraero selected GTP-EazyComm, which partnered with Zebra, to design a Real-Time Location System (RTLS), which includes Both Wifi networks, Zebra GPS tags, antennas with location sensors, as well as WHERENET software and products. This combination of traceability and RFID, using WHERENET products and GPS tags, is part of Zebra's most innovative solution created for airports around the world.
The RTLS solution ensures that airport managers and administrators can make the best use of their resources, reducing costs and risks by optimizing data quality in real time; such as driver access control, ramp operating license, vehicle traceability and speed control. Information related to the internal control of the operation and data from ramp operations are displayed through a real-time control panel that reveals key performance indicators (KPIs).
"Before, the control of entry to the restricted areas of the Airport was carried out manually by physically verifying each of the individuals. We now have automatic access control throughout the ramp. Zebra's innovative technology allows us to obtain accurate real-time information on location, speed, condition and movement in the yard, helping to avoid collisions while generating alerts in case of access of unauthorized people to irrigation areas," said Luciano Baptista da Silva, Infraero Engineer.
Zebra's WHERENET solution has the ability to read information from more than a kilometer away, allowing companies like Congonhas Airport to track assets and personnel in a large yard or facility. With this visibility into its operations, the Airport can make smarter business decisions.
"Zebra offers real-time location and visibility solutions that optimize the efficiency of our customers' workflows and/or processes around the world. The collaboration with Infraero and GTP allowed us to provide Congonhas Airport with a valuable RTLS solution that gives staff the ability to detect and analyze ramp operations, resulting in greater efficiency and a safer environment for all passengers," said Vanderlei Ferreira, General Manager of Zebra Technologies Brazil.
"After identifying Congonhas Airport's main pain points, which were personnel identification and ramp safety, we knew the best option was to partner with Zebra for its strong global brand reputation and the standards of its RFID solutions," concluded Luis Araujo, CEO of GTP-EazyComm.
