International. Schneider Electric's Pelco announced a technology alliance with IBM, one of the leading technology companies in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), to create "Pelco Analytics Powered by IBM". The collaboration seamlessly integrates IBM deep learning analytics into Pelco's video management system (VMS), leveraging video data to quickly identify and respond to potential risks or opportunities.
The development can quickly analyze large volumes of archived video to identify people and objects of interest, drastically decreasing the time needed for video forensics.
Today, video surveillance cameras create more than 850 petabytes of data per day, making it prohibitively expensive, if not impossible, for surveillance professionals to observe and analyze all captured footage. In addition, only three percent of video cameras have smart capabilities. Without improved analytics and automated processes, those who rely on video surveillance only get a small fraction of the value. The partnership between Pelco and IBM will enable a new level of customization through full-code-level integration that includes hardware, VMS and analytics capabilities into a truly seamless solution.
"We will deliver new solutions based on IBM intelligent video analytics (VAT) for cities, airports and schools that use automated zone monitoring, facial detection and object recognition to alert authorized parties to situations that require action," said Robert Beliles, Pelco's chief marketing officer for Schneider Electric.
The user interface of Pelco's video management system for analytics will be optimized, depending on the solution, to provide a superior user experience. New efficiencies offered through Pelco's VideoXpert VMS and Pelco Analytics Powered by IBM will enable cities and other large commercial and public organizations to manage videos from thousands of cameras, analyze movement and behavior patterns, and make changes to processes and policies that can help mitigate or eliminate potential problems.
"Our strategic alliance with IBM is based on Pelco's mission to harness the full power of video to ensure video images receive proper evaluation, attention and action," said Jean-Marc Theolier, CEO of Schneider Electric's Pelco. "By integrating and fully leveraging IBM's expertise in deep learning and powerful algorithms, we will create more efficient and secure business, school and city environments, with the ultimate goal of making the world a better place to work, live and learn."
"This collaboration combines IBM and Pelco's expertise across verticals and enterprises to drive best practices and innovative new solutions," said Mark Gildersleeve, Director of Business Solutions for Watson Content and IoT Platform, IBM. "Together, our goal is to help cities and businesses make smarter, safer decisions."
