Mexico. The head of government Miguel Ángel Mancera recently signed a collaboration agreement with Walmart to coordinate work through the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center of Mexico City (C5-CDMX), with the aim of strengthening surveillance systems in these department stores.
With this signature, coordination work began so that public security elements act in a timely manner in case of risk situations, in which the safety of visitors as well as the personnel of the commercial establishment is endangered.
The president of the capital stressed that the implementation of the C5 with the department stores, is a measure that will be reinforced over time and that "will bear very important fruits, because from the outset we are adding cameras." In addition, this measure will give an advantage to the city as it happens in others in the world and also helps fight crime, he said.
During his speech at the Old City Hall Palace, he also reported that in four stores this C5 technology already operates, only six are missing; since it was agreed that the coordination with the surveillance system would be implemented in ten establishments. Currently, there are approximately 100 cameras that operate to have a replica image of their video surveillance camera monitoring system. With this measure, in case of emergency, the control center staff will be able to monitor in real time the cameras that are in the establishments belonging to the Walmart Group.
There is also a connection with a direct line to 911 so that, in case of suffering a mishap, there can be a direct communication to report the emergency without going through the conventional call system. The C5 technology team is working on the development of an "Assault Button", which can be activated from the store in the event of a violent assault. When the alert is sent, C5 dispatchers will immediately know what is going on and attend to the emergency.
In turn, the head of the C5, Idris Rodríguez Zapata, stressed that this coordination work does not represent any extra cost for the monitoring center, because the technological tools are developed internally, so it is a unique video monitoring system in the country, both in the applied technology and in its operating model.
Finally, the president of the capital, pointed out that this surveillance system will help in crime investigations.
"If we had today in every place of these squares, of these centers, this type of link, in every event that had arisen nearby, we would have images to be able to contribute to the investigation." And he added that they are working with other plazas and shopping centers to implement the same security measures," he said.
