Latin America. According to a recently published report on the pedestrian safety entrance segment market during the period 2014-2016, Boon Edam Inc., manufacturer of revolving doors and security entrances, was the global market leader, with an impressively wide margin in the Americas (North, Central and South America).
Boon Edam's winning category encompasses pedestrian access control equipment, which includes all types of security doors, turnstiles and gates. The report shows that the global pedestrian safety entrance market in the Americas grew by 14.8% during the study period. Boon Edam also made significant gains in revenue distribution during the same period in other ticket categories, especially in optical turnstiles for rapid access control (speed gates), where it reached the first place in the market, compared to the third place obtained in the previous biannual period.
Market Share Highlights
IHS Markit, a global information provider, publishes a report on pedestrian entry control equipment* every two years, conducted through in-depth telephone interviews with security ticket manufacturers around the world. Below, we list some of the highlights of this study's findings for the Americas that concern Boon Edam:
In the pedestrian access control equipment segment, the company's share increased to 27.7% in total revenue share, up 1.8% from the previous two years. This share is more than double that of the nearest competitor.
In the security door category, the company had the highest share, 52.9%, up 3.8% from the last report.
In the security revolving door segment, the company's highest share increased from 4.8% to 55%.
In the category of quick access control barriers (lobby turnstiles that employ barriers and sensors to detect unauthorized users trying to closely follow other authorized users), Boon Edam went from 5%, third place in 2014, to 20.3% in 2016, the highest market share.
Essential success factors
Boon Edam Inc. attributes its outstanding performance to a number of factors. The increase in security threats has made corporations and government entities around the world more aware of the dangers involved in the entry of unauthorized persons and, consequently, are taking steps to mitigate the risks, including the implementation of security entry solutions. Specifically, sales of the Tourlock security revolving door and circlelock security lock have increased because they are solutions that proactively prevent unauthorized users from entering by closely following or sticking to other authorized ones, without the need to assign supervision, generating an impressive return on investment in a short period of time.
The 2014 launch of the Lifeline series of optical turnstiles (which in the report falls under the category of rapid access control barriers) was met with enormous success. The sleek design and great functionality of the turnstiles fit nicely into a market hungry for aesthetically appealing designs for lobby pedestrian barriers.
Boon Edam's wide product range and global presence enable the company to work with large end users to design customized risk mitigation plans that can be implemented in one country or around the world.
"From 2014 to 2016, we experienced a spike in demand for security inputs from large global companies, which I attribute to the fact that more and more managers are really aware of its importance," said Mark Borto, managing director of business operations at Boon Edam Inc. "Three years ago people didn't know what a security revolving door was and that has completely changed."
"Several years ago we began investing heavily in what we call the "Boon Edam experience": we doubled the size of our sales and service organization, initiated a broad and varied technical training program, and significantly expanded our go-to-market initiatives. More recently, we incorporated a corporate sales group. All this has generated a recurring commercial activity and has allowed us to reach global customers more easily. We are more prepared than ever to face the continued growth of the global market, to grow with it and continue to gain share."
