Mexico. For nine years, Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, has overtaken its competitors – AccuWeather, CustomWeather, Intellicast, the National Weather Service, The Weather Channel and Weather Underground – as the most accurate provider of short-term weather, temperature and precipitation prediction. The rating was awarded by ForecastWatch.com, the climate industry's leading forecasting and results analyst.
The study, based on a 24-hour-a-day analysis over 12 months, named Schneider Electric as the number one provider of weather forecasting on two main measures of performance: More accurate short-term weather forecasts for one or two following days and more accurate forecasts about the probability of rain.
The accuracy of forecasts is critical to the health and efficiency of several sectors, primarily for energy services. In an industry where climate change and renewables are already having a big impact, accurate weather forecasts ensure 24/7 operational efficiency.
Forecasts are the main driver of electric and gas utility loads, which are used to make generation and purchasing decisions.
Increased solar and wind generation on the electricity grid implies a greater impact not only of load on the grid, but also the generation capacity.
An accurate weather forecast allows utilities to better forecast and plan for shutdowns, saving them time and resources by restoring power.
"Our customers depend on us to provide them with the most accurate projections so they can make smart decisions when managing their operations," said Jon Reifschneider, vice president of Schneider Electric's Weather Division. "Being rated as a leader is proof of our continued focus on innovating to improve the prediction capabilities and service we provide to our partners."
Schneider Electric aims to continuously innovate and advance its world-class weather forecasts. Current advances improve short- and long-term weather forecasts, up to 15 days in advance. These optimizations ensure that customers receive more accurate industry predictions to make critical decisions in their business.
