Colombia. A thousand taxi drivers will be the first to install the panic buttons with which the Government of Santander in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Avantel, seek to face the low rates of perception of security published by the Colombian Network of Cities How We Go.
According to the commander of the Police, General Nelson Ramírez Suárez, "once the taxi drivers press the panic button, the Police through a monitoring from the central of the 123 can identify where the taxi driver is located and arrive with the corresponding support.
All quadrants are available, 24 hours a day." The initiative is in addition to the installation of 160 cameras, for 24-hour surveillance in Floridablanca, Bucaramanga, Piedecuesta and Girón.
Taxi drivers interested in having the panic button must register, according to Vanguardia Liberal, at the headquarters of Cop Poder Amarillo in Bucaramanga, where registration was enabled from February 17 to March 5.
In other Colombian cities such as Bogotá and Ibagué, these buttons have been successfully installed to improve safety in taxis.
