Latin America. Genetec, a leading provider of unified IP network security solutions, announced its new Cloud Archiving service for the Security Center that will allow organizations to easily scale the available storage capacity of their video surveillance system, and eliminate the need to invest in additional servers.
Organizations will be able to continue to leverage their existing on-premises storage equipment with this hybrid cloud service, and this service provides a cost-effective solution for those customers who need to extend the video retention period, or implement off-premises video recording.
The stored videos will be encrypted before they are transferred to the Cloud to ensure that only authorized users can access the recordings, while allowing operators to view and search videos transparently from their Security Center system, whether they have been stored locally or in the Cloud.
Security system upgrades may exceed storage requirements beyond what was originally estimated, either because new policies are stipulated that require longer periods of recorded video storage, or organizations to add more cameras.
Cloud Storage can be enabled in any Security Center Archiver to define how long video recordings will be stored on-premises before being sent to the Cloud, thus allowing customers to extend the available storage capacity as system requirements evolve.
Corporate customers can also implement off-premises recording solutions for full redundancy when using Cloud Storage, which can significantly reduce the operating costs required to host systems that are installed in their locations, such as electricity and maintenance equipment.
Organizations that have distributed sites will also be able to group Cloud Storage resources across multiple systems to share capacity, and avoid the cost of adding new servers in each of the locations. Security Center Cloud Archives leverage Microsoft's Azure, combining the strength of Genetec's unified security platform with the global reach, scalability and reliability of Azure.
As backed by a 99.9% Uptime Guarantee by Genetec through the Service Level Agreement (SLA), all recorded content will be replicated and mirrored in Azure data centers that are globally dispersed , in order to provide redundancy to the recorded videos, and help mitigate the risk of video loss due to failures in the hardware that is installed in the localities.
"We are very excited to see the evolution of Genetec's portfolio of cloud services, and what it has delivered to the physical security industry through Azure," said Kim Akers, General Manager, Platform Dissemination and Development Division, Microsoft. "Since storage costs are the highest volume in the operation of video surveillance systems, Cloud Storage provides Genetec customers with the opportunity to significantly reduce their investment when installing or expanding their security system on Azure," added Akers.
The Security Center Cloud Archives are currently available as a preview to Certified Business Partners and customers, and will be available to the general public during the first quarter of 2015 as a service provided under subscription.
