International. ONVIF, the world's leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, has announced the launch of its proactive education and enforcement campaign designed to ensure that all ONVIF compliance announcements of IP-based physical security products submitted by manufacturers are valid.
The education initiative and its implementation aims to further protect the ONVIF brand and continuously monitor, in a preventive manner, the copyrights, trademarks and logos of ONVIF. The campaign will also help educate the manufacturer community of specific compliance requirements and their ability to advertise individual products based on ONVIF compliance.
The only way to determine the conformity of a product is through a listing on the ONVIF website, where compliant products can be easily searched using a variety of criteria. An entry on the ONVIF website means that the product has undergone a comprehensive test and onVIF compliance process and has been individually certified by ONVIF. There are currently more than 3,300 conforming individual products listed.
"We recognize that the credibility of the ONVIF brand is crucial for the success of the standard and for the organization to move forward and therefore, we take the protection of this brand very seriously," says Per Björkdahl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ONVIF. "Our goal with this application campaign is to reinforce in the market that the ONVIF name continues to represent interoperability in the market."
To drive these efforts, earlier this year ONVIF introduced a new membership level to provide access to ONVIF's testing tool, which is used to test the validity of product conformity. Observer's membership level allows advisors, system integrators, and media organizations to individually validate the compliance of a specific product to a given ONVIF Profile.
"As a member-oriented organization, we rely heavily on our members' efforts to help develop policies and procedures that ensure THE success of ONVIF, both for its members and for the industry at large," said Stuart Rawling, Vice Chair of the ONVIF Communications Committee. "We encourage anyone who suspects any product that falsely claims conformity to contact us at [email protected]."
