Brazil. Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD), a subsidiary of Progress Rail Services, is a business unit of the Caterpillar Group. Located in Minas Gerais, Brazil and with facilities of 15,000 meters of built area, the factory proposed the expansion of its capacity to be able to produce 100 locomotives per year with a power of 4,000 HP. The number of employees was to reach 600 before the project completion date.
EMD was looking for a comprehensive megapixel solution to secure its large properties, including four sheds, a storage area, three buildings (office, cafeteria and locker), and several entrances and exits (people and vehicles).
Megapixel solutions in general offer significant benefits, but the large number of megapixel cameras and the need for 24/7 continuous recording represented many difficulties for the system integrator: the I/O Performance of traditional NVRs, the stable integration of storage, and the complete installation of a proven solution that can ensure point-to-point integration. To address all these challenges, EMD decided to adopt Surveon's end-to-end megapixel solution including cameras, SMR and enterprise VMS software.
The video surveillance system is connected to the corporation's data network which allows the monitoring of the production line and safety of workers in real time, management departments, and the status of the entire plant without compromising the transmission of data. Surveon's SMR SMR8032 was installed in the data center, while the CAM1301, 2-megapixel Box Day Night and CAM2321, 3-megapixel Box Day Night, were connected to four network cabinets installed in the sheds and were interconnected via fiber optics. This configuration allowed the creation of a dedicated VLAN for security teams.
The CAM1301 offers a wide range of important features including compact size, 1920x1080 video resolution, H.264 simultaneous video streams, video analytics capability and PoE support. On the other hand, the CAM2321 equipped with the Sony Exmor image sensor, provides high image quality and low luminosity performance. With a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 and Full HD video performance, in addition to important features such as DC iris and WDR, the cameras are the ideal solution for high-level security applications.
Smart Megapixel Recorders (SMRs) come embedded with Surveon's VMS software and provide enterprise features such as live view, real-time analytics, multiple displays, video tagging, instant playback, remote monitoring, web client, mobile client, HTML and domain management. These come in an easy-to-use Tower format with high I/O performance, large capacity, and a stable system needed to help system integrators meet the demands of a truly megapixel installation.
"With Surveon's systems, it is possible to ensure comprehensive monitoring with a limited number of guards. All the images are viewed on two monitors where guards can see all terrain and receive intrusion alerts through real-time video analytics and therefore act with greater precision and effectiveness," says Marco Wardil of Wimpex, product manager for EMD.
