Peru. Little by little several municipalities are having results in reducing crimes such as theft and robbery, after installing video surveillance cameras at strategic points, mainly in the center of each city, parks and squares.
In Usulután since the system was installed, the National Civil Police details that crimes such as theft and robbery have had a significant reduction and speak of 40%.
Also the video surveillance mechanism allows them better traffic control when it is congested in the city center.
Other municipalities that have advanced with the installation of these devices are San Salvador, San Miguel, Santa Tecla, Sonsonate and San Julián, a municipality that belongs to the latter department.
In the Port of La Libertad also the police corporation has had results with the installation of the cameras. This city has started with the placement of 16 video surveillance cameras and so far has invested 35 thousand dollars.
The mayor of this municipality, Carlos Molina, says that some of the areas that are being monitored by the police post are the city center and the tourist area such as the boardwalk.
One of the advantages of this monitoring center is that it is located at the police headquarters and this makes it easier for patrols to arrive immediately in case a crime is committed.
The head of that post, Víctor Manuel Herrera, explained that if the people who live in the city or the tourists themselves knew that they are being monitored, "security would improve."
Mayor Molina now intends to expand the surveillance system to beaches such as San Diego, El Majahual and others.
On the other hand, the mayor of Lima, Susana Villarán, announced that before the end of next February some 640 video surveillance cameras installed in strategic points of the capital will be interconnected, which will contribute to strengthening citizen security and the fight against crime.
Villarán said that this year it is expected to increase the number of serene trained in the Metropolitan Center for Training and Training of Serenazgo (Cemfocas), in order to have a standardized performance of municipal agents in charge of supporting the Police in citizen security.
