Wallets, cell phones and computers, the loot in Reforma 222
25/10/2011. A gang of criminals who were dedicated to stealing credit cards, cell phones, computers and various valuables from diners of a restaurant located inside the Reforma 222 Shopping Center, was arrested by the Attorney General's Office of the Federal District (PGJDF).
The government agency, headed by Attorney General Miguel Ángel Mancera, reported that the assailants were arrested on October 21 by police elements near the shopping center, where moments before they had robbed a person.
The detainees were placed at the disposal of a criminal judge since the robbery of last week was one more on their list, since the Public Ministry related the facts with another complaint, this one filed since July 8, 2011 by security personnel of Reforma 222, who detected in surveillance videos the same subjects after the robbery of a diner.
The authorities explained some points that the gang followed to operate in the commercial plaza.
1. Thieves arrive at the shopping plaza, enter several restaurants and cafes to choose the victims whom they will follow for several minutes or hours.
2. Once the victim is detected, they enter the restaurant or cafeteria, wait for the moment when the person leaves his table to pay or pick up his order and an accomplice covers the visibility of the diner.
3. At that time, two or three other thieves quickly pull out of bags, purses, cell phones or other clothing. And without staying long, they take what was stolen and leave the mall to go to a car or scooter waiting for them in the area.
