Training and updating, first

This year has been a great activity in our participation in fairs, and in the contribution and organization of their academic programs. Expo Seguridad México, ALAS Management Summit and, more recently, the E+S Fair.

In this last fair we had the opportunity to carry out the entire academic program, which was very well received and very well responded by the attendees.

During the first day of the program, Engineer Modesto Miguez prepared for the attendees the seminar on advanced monitoring, in which it was highlighted: The treatment of monitoring, analyzed from different points of view that will greatly help the decision maker.

What should and should not be done? both in the technical, commercial and operational aspects. Examples of real cases and the most successful experiences of monitoring companies in Latin America.

On the second day the Congress - Intelligent Security Management was held. In this congress, attendees were able to interact with different speakers specialized in each of the topics discussed.

IP vs. IP Analog was exposed by the engineer Germán Cortés; National Police and the use of electronic security by Colonel Jairo Gordillo Rojas was another of the conferences in which the reflection left by the Colonel of the National Police of Colombia when he said that "companies must work together with governments so that security really becomes a right of citizens."

The Conference, Risk Assessment as a Determining Factor in Technological Selection dictated by Sonia Andrade focused on the importance of applying elements of reflection on the responsibility of organizational managers in decision-making framed in the concept of cost / effectiveness in the before and after of technological implementation.

The expert presented the usefulness of risk assessment methods for the selection and implementation of technological models, and gave guidance for the moment of decision-making towards the rational and effective mitigation of risks.

Ricardo Martínez, specialist in Balanced Score Card (Command Board) presented some exercises carried out at the ALAS Management Summit in which common patterns of behaviors of managers were identified in relation to the strategic vision of companies, and how the BSC is a tool to implement and make companies more orderly, productive and efficient.

The congress highlighted the panel of manufacturers on CCTV, which had a very interesting discussion on the current and future of IP technology for CCTV. The table was attended by sales managers of manufacturing companies and corporate partners such as Luis Alberto Delgado, Axis; Alexandro Salinas, Bolide; Miguel Ángel Baquero, Bosch; Antonio Perez, NVT; Pedro Duarte, Samsung; and Héctor Porras, Sony. The panel was moderated by Rafael Padilla, Anixter's manager for the Andean region.

The last two days of the fair we took the CCTV course. Level 1. For ALAS, the training and updating of those of us who are part of the industry is fundamental, that is why it is important to support these spaces and maintain the commitment to seek strategic allies such as the E+S Fair and other security fairs, so that we reach all corners of the region.

The colleague and the friend

By Adriana Álvarez
In memory of the engineer Eduardo Güemes (Q.E.P.D.)

A great person departed who knew how to win our affection and that of many during his professional life of more than 25 years of experience in the electronic security industry. Eduardo served as instructor of the courses of Alarms 1 and 2 in Mexico and his management was fundamental for the advancement of WINGS and the entire industry in this country.

Who was Eduardo Güemes?
Born on November 11, 1956 in Mexico City, Eduardo graduated from the career of Communications Engineering and Electronics at the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City.

Since his professional beginning, he dedicated himself to Electronic Security, focusing his main experience on intrusion alarms and working as Operations Manager in the company Central de Alarmas de México for 7 years.

Later he dedicated himself to independent consulting for 2 years, giving technical support to several installation companies in the Electronic Security Industry.

In 1991 he joined Corporativo Inalarm, S.A. de C.V. as Technical Support Manager, providing pre and post-sales advice on equipment for the different solutions provided in the Company.

He joined ALAS in 2004. In the association his work was impeccable. He served as instructor of the courses in Alarms level 1, of ALAS CANASA, for Mexico, and in 2008 he added the course of Alarms level 2, of ALAS CANASA, for this same country.

In 2010, he became the manager of training and new product development at Inalarm. In this position he was responsible for the analysis and selection of electronic security products, used in intrusion alarm systems, fire detection, CCTV and access control; in addition to the coordination of training for all of Mexico and the development of technical content for the website and social networks of the company.

Anecdotes remain in the memory
The death of Eduardo Güemes was a very strong blow for the entire electronic security industry in Mexico, for Inalarm and for ALAS. Eduardo left many disciples, an important work in the industry and, above all, many friends. Some of them recall here anecdotes of Eduardo's life and work.

Referring to his academic methods, Ricardo Pulido, regional manager of Tyco, remembers that on one occasion, after delivering the disarmers that were given away in the DSC courses (of Tyco), a technician approached him and said:

"Excuse me, I want to ask you if you don't have a cross instead of the plane that was the one you gave me.

"Eduardo smiled and said, "Sure, with pleasure." He asked the technician for the disassembler he had been given, took out the metal part, put it with the tip of the cross on the outside and returned it saying: "This you served!"

Posthumous tribute to the great professional
Eduardo was always characterized by being a person dedicated to his profession, with excellent technical mastery and with an immense willingness to teach, share and sow knowledge. That is why, wherever he is, his relatives, colleagues and friends express feelings of admiration.

"Dear Friends, I want to use this space in memory of our dear colleague, engineer Eduardo López, who has left a huge legacy in our beloved company Inalarm, as well as in the security industry.

Eduardo educated and trained thousands of technicians throughout Mexico. It was a great pillar of growth and an example of professional and dedicated work. For me he was a great friend and example to follow.

Fortunately, we have several students that Eduardo helped in his professional growth, and they will be the ones who must follow the path he left.

Eduardo Güemes will always be our great teacher and pillar of the security industry in Mexico.

With admiration, gratitude and enormous affection."

Lucy Rivero, president of Corporativo Inalarm.

"It is a sad time for all of us at WINGS with the passing of our friend Eng. Eduardo Güemes, a great colleague in the Latin American security industry. My condolences to his family, and all the loved ones who have had this precious loss."

Eduardo Vargas, President of ALAS.

"From the beginning we established a very cordial friendship, beyond the institutional relationship in his participation as an ALAS instructor of the Alarm Course.

I was struck by his simplicity and his willingness to share his knowledge with others, since being a person with a lot of experience and vast technical knowledge, he did not lose the floor and always cared about helping in the best way those who came to him, both inside the courses and when consulting him directly in the different editions of the Expo Seguridad México, at the Inalarm stand or in the training rooms.

Of a quiet and sober nature, his greatness was manifested during the teaching of the courses, keeping the attendees interested, to whom he transmitted the necessary confidence to question him and request that he clarify their doubts.

His good sense of humor always accompanied him, recreating a pleasant atmosphere around him, when holding any talk, regardless of the topic or the listeners.

Not only did we lose a good instructor, but an excellent friend. Thank you Eduardo for the moments you shared with us."

Engineer Salvador M. Gómez, President alas Mexico

"He was a great man, always willing to help, kind, he gladly did his job, polite, very professional. He was an endearing person who immediately earned your respect and affection."

Alicia Herrera, director of ALAS Mexico

"Unfortunately I was able to share little with Eduardo, during my trips to Mexico mainly. What I remember most is that any request or proposal was always ready. There was always a 'yes, we can do it'.

I remember in particular one day that our master instructor, Carlos Guzmán, could not travel to El Salvador to teach a course of alarms that could not be postponed. Then I called Eduardo and he said 'of course we do, we do. Just call my boss, here's his number. If she says yes, we do it.' And as always happened with Eduardo, we did. We're going to miss him very much."

Víctor Alarcón, executive director of ALAS.

The entire WINGS team expresses the most sincere condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
