02/09/2011. The taxi monitoring system was exhibited through cameras. The Secretary of Security, Guillermo Pellini, municipal authorities and members of taxi associations participated.
The Secretary of Security of the province, Guillermo Pellini, presented this Thursday afternoon a passenger transport unit equipped with a security camera. The system will be put to the test and is one of the measures adopted jointly by security authorities of the province and members of taxi associations after the crime of taxi driver Rogelio San Miguel.
Pellini highlighted the new system and said that the Security Secretariat is preparing a bill to "bring a legal framework to this new prevention measure."
Claudio Méndez, from the company Patagonia Satelital, supplier of the equipment, detailed how it works: "the system is digital analog, has a GPRS modem for transmission and carries a GPS device for the geopositioning of the vehicle. It has a camera that allows you to take pictures of the rear compartment of the vehicle."
"The photos are taken manually, in this trial period the driver does it, but it can be done remotely or through a door opening sensor, it is something that we are working together with the Police of the province," said Méndez.
The camera is above the rearview mirror and has an angle of 105 degrees, the information that is emitted from the vehicle can be viewed from a personal computer and is easy to store. The cameras have an infrared sensor that allows you to take pictures at night.
The system will be tested over the weekend in two vehicles and a new meeting of the Monitoring Commission is scheduled for Monday at the headquarters of the Police Headquarters.
The meeting was attended by Vicente Aiello, director of Transport of the municipality of Neuquén; Mario Del Río, head of the Taxi Owners Association; and Eduardo Lira, president of the Association of Taxi Workers.
