16/05/2011. Enrique Peña Nieto, governor of the state of Mexico, indicated that the state government has offered security to the candidates who will participate in the electoral campaigns, which would begin this May 16.
In a press conference, after the celebration of the teacher's day, Peña Nieto stressed "candidates of all parties have been offered (security), some have accepted it, others have not; others have rather asked that the government eventually support paying for the private security data that the candidates themselves have, to which we have agreed."
He continued: "The government is in the spirit simply to collaborate with the political parties, to guarantee the security of their candidates in the mechanisms they prefer; we have offered, security for all, some accepted it and others did not.
It should be noted that the candidate of the "Unidos por Ti" coalition, Eruviel Ávila Villegas, accepted the security of the state government while Luis Felipe Bravo Mena of the PAN agreed to be paid for the services he hired from an independent company, and the standard-bearer of the "Unidos Podemos Más" coalition, Alejandro Encinas, rejected such an offer.
On the other hand, he was asked if this would be the last act before the electoral campaigns begin, to which he commented "no, we are going to adjust and we are going to adhere to the guidelines that the law imposes for the participation of public servants within the electoral processes."
He added "The government will continue to work, we will continue to have contact with the citizens in events that allow us to continue putting into operation different works in this final stretch of the administration."
