Germany. In southwestern Germany, customers of Edeka supermarkets can pay for their purchases with their fingerprint in 70 Edeka stores.
According to the company's directives, to use this biometric payment system, customer data such as address, telephone number and bank references must be registered in the store system, as well as their footprint.
Currently, one in four customers use their footprint to pay, especially consumers over the age of 40. Edeka plans to extend this new payment method to another 200 points of sale.
