International. From Cirion, a provider of digital infrastructure and technology, it is pointed out that there is a need to increase energy efficiency in data centers, due to the importance of these spaces and the boom of their industry.
According to Juan José Calderón, director of Data Center, Cloud & Security products, for Cirion Technologies, in its lines of Mexico and Peru, there are relevant data that point to a growth of the Data Center industry. The expert said that Statista aims to record profits of 342 billion dollars in 2023, while Research and Markets points out that the Mexican data center industry will have a CAGR of 9.7% until 2028.
According to the U.S. Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), Mexico ranked 14th out of 25 nations on the Energy Efficiency Scoreboard. This fact becomes relevant in the framework of Earth Day, since it reminds us that organizations can – and have the obligation – to work for the care of the only place where, until now, we can inhabit: the Earth.
According to Calderón, "the Data Center industry becomes a fundamental point in the search for greater energy efficiency; especially if we consider that it is an industry that, it is expected, will consolidate and even grow in this 2023, as indicated by Statista, with expected profits of 342 billion dollars. For this reason, it becomes necessary to leverage it from the trends and technologies that set the standard in the market."
The director assures that data centers present changes in their conception allowing companies to choose between different types of them, depending on their needs and with avant-garde solutions.
Types of Data Centers
Calderón even points to the existence of several types of Data Centers, including Mega Data Centers, used primarily by cloud companies; multi-company data centers, which are smaller in scale than the previous ones, designed to solve the issues of security, environment, in addition to the adoption of best practices; and micro data centers, which are located in unthinkable places such as a plant, the latter function as a data center designed close to customers to obtain more information and deliver it more closely, also known as edge data centers.
Of the micro data centers of the expert ensures that "they will set a pattern and represent a series of opportunities and considerations that companies must have for their management and optimization."
Although Calderón points out that there is no single recipe for efficiency, since each company is different and has particular needs and strategies for the future, there are different tools and new technologies for Data Center that allow us to approach the objective, both to take care of the environment, and to meet the requirements of our customers. as well as to achieve organizational objectives. To this end, it proposes leverage in Edge and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
Edge
"Without a doubt, it is of great help in achieving any energy efficiency goal; Through the processing of information, in the same data center where it is captured, and in its distribution, it can make energy consumption more efficient."
Artificial intelligence
"It is an opportunity for data centers, since it is necessary that, in micro data centers, where there are no technical personnel, operations are as autonomous as possible, that they can make decisions immediately to adjust; for example, with the issue of environment and safety."
Finally, for Cirion's expert, artificial intelligence and automation are helping in micro data centers. "In the tenor that the Mexican data center industry will have a CAGR of 9.7% until 2028 (Research and Markets), it is necessary to resort to companies that are up to date with new technologies, in addition to being up to date in terms of knowledge of market needs and thus simplify processes of adoption and evaluation of companies in any country.
