During 2018, passengers at the airport have been able to use and test facial recognition systems at different stages of their journey, such as at the entrance of the United Kingdom at the border with biometric electric gates. With a budget of 50 million pounds (US$64.5 million), starting in the summer of 2019, the airport will incorporate this large-scale security system, which will cover each of the stages of the journey of passengers, including those boarding an international flight.
The London airport wants to improve its services, in such a way that it is expected to obtain a reduction in waiting time, will streamline the identification processes of travelers and will be able to personalize the services of users, especially those who require additional assistance.
It also aims to ensure that users move freely around the airport without being affected by the numerous controls, while reducing the use of paper.
