International. Honeywell Homes' new CEO, Mike Nefkens, revealed the name of Honeywell Home's upcoming product portfolio and ADI's distribution business: Resideo.
"When we thought of a name for the new company, we knew we had to reflect our strong heritage, the promise of connected technology, and the deep devotion people feel for protecting what they hold dearest," Nefkens explained in a video announcing the name change.
"Resideo combines the words 'residence' — your home — and 'presidio' — your strength," he added in a note written on the company's new homepage, www.resideo.com.
Resideo will become an independent, publicly traded company after the completion of the spin-off, which is expected by the end of 2018. The company "will continue to sell Honeywell-branded products, under the Honeywell Home sub-brand," said Nefkens, who was named president and CEO of Honeywell Homes in May. "We have a license to use the Honeywell Home brand for many years to come, and Honeywell Homes brand products will integrate the Resideo 'R.'"
As for ADI, the press announcement reiterated that "ADI Global Distribution will retain its name and remain a resideo-owned distribution business, allowing its low-voltage global contractors to access the products and technologies they need to meet the needs of their customers."
Resideo (Honeywell at the time) launched its as-yet-unnamed home automation and security system on ESX in June in June. It included different touchpads, a hub, keyboards and sensors that will replace the Lyric line and integrate with TotalConnect and AlarmNet. "Over time, this will be our entire residential security offering," said Vice President Scott Harkins.
According to the announcement, more than 4.7 million Resideo customers use connected devices in their homes, giving them app-based access to controls, monitoring and alerts. After the spin, the new company will already have approximately 30 million sensors installed that generate more than 250 billion data transmissions a year.
Already in October, when Honeywell announced the planned spin-off, it said that "the new Homes and Global Distribution business will be a leader in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) controls, and a global leader in the distribution of safety and fire protection products."
