Colombia. The Ups's or the protectors against overloads are not on the list of the most desired gifts in these festivities, although they should be. And it is that in this season of the year, characterized by the splendor of the lights, the magic can not accidentally end with what you want most: your home or office.
That is why Schneider Electric experts share the following recommendations to make your energy consumption much more efficient and thus avoid accidents:
1. Schedule a general review of your electrical installation by certified technical personnel and ask if your installation complies with the technical regulations, it is advisable to identify the potential risks with which you live.
2. If you do not have electrical plans of your house, this is a good opportunity to get them. Before installing a lighting system or performing any electrical work, your technician must check them, for the sake of their installation and for the safety of users, or simply one day you will need them to make expansions or any type of maintenance.
3. Every time you buy Christmas lights or installations, ask the basics like your energy consumption, as an installation of 100 Christmas bulbs does not consume more than 10 Watts of power on average, but many installations added together can recharge a circuit of your installation, causing the protections to fire at best.
4. For no reason allow your technician to manipulate the installation before the outlets or ceilings without de-energizing the respective circuits, as an accident can overshadow your end of the year parties.
5. Check that your electrical technician made a good insulation of the connections that have to be left outdoors, since these will be exposed to rain, which affects the safety of the same and the useful life of the lights, hoses, sequencers, among others.
6. Currently you can use technological devices that temporic the automatic on and off of your external and internal lights, Christmas trees and mangers, in this way they will not consume energy all night and will not be a risk to your home while you sleep. As always buy them from your trusted electrical supplier.
7. Avoid the use of extensions and multi-sockets as much as possible. If necessary, verify that they are designed for all the load to be connected and that they comply with current regulations.
8. Install adequate protections, these must act quickly in situations of failure and choose energy-efficient products that do not overload your facilities, that do not generate difficulties at the least opportune time, or that excessively increase your next electricity service billing.
9. As a preventive measure, make your own inspection of your Christmas lighting system, that is, analyze the behavior of your outlets and the wiring in sight. Any sign of warming is a warning of imminent risk that can end in a fire outbreak.
10. Just as you wisely hire certified electrical technicians, also demand excellent quality materials and products. Your heritage and the safety of your loved ones are at stake.
