Colombia. The main conclusion of the preventive meeting held by the governor of the Atlantic, José Antonio Segebre, with members of the Public Force and the owners and managers of the intermunicipal transport companies was that in the shortest possible time all the buses, of this system, will be equipped with a security camera and panic button.
This was announced by the Secretary of the Interior of the Atlantic, Jaime Berdugo Pérez, who said that after analyzing the state of public order, in this sector, a substantial reduction in the number of robberies in motor vehicles was evidenced.
"However, it is required to continue with the process of installing cameras that was recently started. Today there are 10 buses with cameras and 170 with GPS systems and the idea is that progressively all intermunicipal buses have camera systems, "announced Berdugo Pérez.
Likewise, he said that 50 more cameras will be installed and thus work will continue to comply with the provision of the 585 intermunicipal buses.
Within the meeting it was established that although the number of criminal acts has been reduced, the critical points are fully identified. "In general, there has been a greater number in the Via al Mar and some cases in La Cordialidad and La Oriental," added the Secretary of the Interior of the Atlantic.
The resources will be obtained through a public-private partnership in which the Government will provide the camera system and the transporters would cover the cost of the internet connection.
Governor Segebre said that the intention of this meeting is that the security problems in Barranquilla do not affect the intermunicipal transport system and on the increase in extortion in this area of the country, he indicated that it has its main basis in the demobilization of paramilitary groups.
