Panama. Panamanian consumers are replacing cash with new payment technologies, such as the digital wallet, online transfers, and debit or credit cards.
Currently, one in three Panamanians uses a credit card and most of the country's private and state banks already have online banking.
The National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG) recognizes that Panama continues to make progress in the implementation of more user-friendly technological programs. For example, the Superintendency of Banks authorized the use of Cable and Wireless Panama's cellular service as a mobile wallet.
In addition, the National Revenue Authority (ANI), in conjunction with the AIG and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has implemented a portal for the electronic payment of all the obligations that citizens have with public entities, including taxes, rents, fines and fees, among others, in which private and state banks also participate.
All the platforms of "Panama without Paper" contemplate the electronic payment of the services provided by the State.
