Siaproci revealed its most recent integrations in some of the Ecuadorian and multinational companies that are installed in the South American country.
By: Duván Chaverra
For more than seven months, the Ecuadorian integration firm Siaproci Cia Ltda made some success stories that it wanted to share with the magazine VENTAS DE SEGURIDAD, which were developed in different oil companies in that nation, as well as in other companies involved with new technologies, machinery, vehicles, among others.
For all these facilities that we will present throughout this article, the integrator of the South American country used fourteen lines of firms that manufacture products for security, which will be mentioned during each description of the type of installation.
To develop this theme we have the participation of the engineer Patricio Fustillos, marketing manager of Siaproci, who initially explained that all the places that reinforced their security have something in common: "They are institutions whose applications are of high requirement in geographically dispersed equipment and their experience requests high levels of integration between fires, IP CCTV cameras, access with biometric technology, intrusion, time and attendance control, telecommunications, etc.".
Security is an issue that all large companies always keep in mind, which at any time can feel threatened and suffer attacks or attempted robberies within their facilities, and even more so if they are companies that work in the middle of pipelines, cars or energy supply.
Companies and their facilities
After knowing briefly the institutions indicated by Fustillos, below we will point out the type of security system that was installed in each of the companies.
Petroindustrial: The Ecuadorian state-owned company that manages the production of refineries. There were installed integrated systems with the Lenel platform in two refineries, located in the city of La Libertad and Shushufinid and in the central corporate building, in Quito. In the refineries, biometric access systems of hand geometry with bidirectional windlasses, systems integrated to the Lenel access panel, vehicular access systems with barriers and tag reader were installed at the main entrances, as well as Pelco and Lenel IP cameras that connect to a Motorola wireless system made up of subscribers and Access point.
The variation in the corporate building is that the cameras used were 1.3 Megapixels of Axis.
Pipeline Management: As special applications in Balao Oil Seaport, located in the city of Esmeraldas, in addition to the main structure they installed a system in OPC in Lenel that synchronizes with a delta V OPC, a tank handling SCADA application, so that when a valve is opened, the camera records and testifies to the operation, which is sent simultaneously to a client unit in the operating control room. That is, the system went from being just a security unit to being a documentary support of the operation of processes.
The same customer, who manages a pipeline that goes from the province of Esmeraldas to Zucumbios, Sony cameras with internal memory were installed. Lenel can monitor from time to time from a centralized NVR to upload event information from camera memories, a system required due to the low bandwidth the customer has to valve points in a pipeline of more than 400 kilometers.
Cisco and PDVSA (city of Quito): In the case of the Venezuelan oil company (PDVSA), the platform they installed was Lenel with 90-degree Mobotix cameras, an integrated Bosch 9472 intrusion panel. Cisco, on the other hand, used the same platform but with Sony cameras. Both companies have as a corporate platform the Lenel brand as an integrating system.
Mavesa (city of Quito): The main truck distribution company Inho within Ecuador, also worked with the same platform of the previous companies, with the addition that the vehicles that are distributed there are being installed a vehicle tag of the Awid brand on their identification plate, which allows to process the data of the car.
Constitution Insurance (city of Quito): The Venezuelan firm with a presence in Ecuador used the Lenel platform, with CCTV and intrusion systems in its corporate building. The solution includes access at each main door with the support of video cameras, fire systems integrated into the main system and elevator control.
Electric company of Loja (city of Loja): It is the energy distribution company of the province of Loja. With geographically dispersed installations, Lenel IP PTZ cameras were installed in the substations for perimeter surveillance, fixed IP cameras inside the substation's dashboard room, as well as smoke and intrusion detection systems. This together with a SCADA system of processes that allows the operation, for the moment, of fifteen unattended substations with plans to grow up to 30 units including generation plants.
All these companies saw the need to improve their security systems due to setbacks and experiences in which they were violated in one way or another. So they understood that the most important thing was to make their group of employees and those who visit their facilities feel good: "There have been conflicting events over time that have led to the search for high-level security solutions. In all these firms the need is common, they are large groups of people, contractors, suppliers, employees, transition personnel, among others, "said Fustillos.
Starting from scratch
All the projects that Siaproci installed in the aforementioned companies started from scratch, and although there have been inconveniences during the assembly of the systems, the integrator ensures that all the mishaps have gone ahead.
"There are always problems and technical difficulties that advantageously with sufficient assistance from the manufacturer can be solved. Our people are factory certified in most of the products we sell, which has reduced implementation times. There have been thousands of problems but all with dedication have been left behind," said the Ecuadorian engineer, who also told us about the greatest advantage of the aforementioned equipment installed in these companies.
"At present, with the integration to industrial systems the biggest advantage is to use video as a witness to operations, documenting processes with supporting video. Another important function implemented is to take the access data for use in advanced time control and attendance applications."
The security system
As it is understood at the beginning of this article, the companies all agreed to use the same Lenel platform, which according to our guest has the facility to integrate with many other manufacturers of surveillance cameras.
"Lenel integrates with many camera manufacturers such as Axis, Mobotix, Pelco, Sony, etc., allowing each customer to use the type of camera they require or that the application needs, and may even have several brands in each application. The manufacturer integrates biometrics in the panels, so that the control center handles all the data on the same platform without needing applications or parallel communication paths," said Patricio Fustillos.
Another issue that should be mentioned for its great importance is surveillance cameras. The brands that were used depended on the project, because by the type of place, all these were different.
"In petroindustrial's parent building, high storage capacity units were defined, as well as Refinería Libertad, using NAS units, in the first case HP and in the second case Sataboy. Live video storage times are 30 days. In corporate buildings in general we have been asked for Mobotix or Axis IP cameras, while in plant applications they request analog PTZ cameras from Pelco that rather convert their analog video into digital with video web server. "
The results obtained
The integrating company speaks very well of the results that have been presented so far in the different companies, which throughout this article we toured to learn about the security systems they implemented. This according to Patricio Fustillos has to do with the right choice of the products they used.
"By running on familiar and stable platforms like SQL, Windows 2003 Server or Oracle, systems work properly. One of the principles used is that the peripherals in access readers, video cameras, biometric readers, are among the best on the market. You should not skimp on and believe that with having the central system of the best performance the peripherals can be any, the failures come from these equipment."
Meanwhile, according to Siaproci, the client has been pleased with the security systems it acquired from the integrator: "The end customers have expressed satisfaction with the assemblies and in most cases they are preparing projects to take advantage of their current facilities in special integrations or expansion projects," said engineer Fustillos, who finally added about the increase in security in companies that "many of them have lowered the crime rate, the existence of the systems already decreases attempts to violate security."
