Huge Growth of IoT Data in 2018 Forces Elimination of Transients

Mexico. Joseph Reger, Fujitsu CTO at EMEIA, unveils the top five IoT predictions in 2018.

For the executive, the masses of IoT data in 2018 will be very large, so it becomes difficult to analyze and understand them in their entirety. Given this reality, it is necessary to understand the importance of eliminating those that are transient and that probably never have value.

Machines are the first thing in an increasingly hyperconnected world. In this new year, IoT devices are starting to focus on being more attractive to other smart products, rather than people. Any IoT device that makes it difficult to exchange data with another machine will have a limited perspective.

There is going to be a rapid consolidation of the IoT. Today there are approximately 900 platforms and not all of them will survive the year as global standards emerge and drive out proprietary and independent platforms.

It's the year of IoT security, and even the simplest sensors will be able to provide secure communications. Any insecure IoT will have a short lifespan. The need for secure communications between machines in industrial workshops, both internally within an organization and between producers, will drive the acceptance of global safety protocols. The need for secure and undeniable transactions will mean that blockchain will become more than just a digital currency.

B2B undoubtedly drives the IoT and not B2C. In 2018, we will continue to see investment and progress in business-to-business (B2B) Internet of Things deployments far outpace business-to-consumer (B2C) projects. IoT will be integrated into B2B products at a faster rate than the consumer market can maintain.
