International. The Burj Khalifa broke numerous records when it opened its doors in 2010. The building has the tallest free structure, the largest number of floors, the highest occupancy level and the elevator with the longest route in the world. It has recently added another record to its history: "At the top - Burj Khalifa Sky", which is currently the highest outdoor viewpoint in the world.
Boon Edam has put its own grain of sand into this new record, with the installation of the world's highest revolving doors to access the new observation deck.
The Uae is famous for its imposing record-breaking structures, with the Burj Khalifa at the helm. Since its inauguration in 2010, it has been the tallest building in the world for the past five years and is very likely to retain this title for some time to come. When it opened its doors, the highest exterior gazebo was on the 124th floor.
The new platform "At the top - Burj Khalifa Sky" is not literally located at the top of the building, but it is nearby. It is located on the 148th floor of more than 160 floors. This new outdoor observation deck offers visitors without fear of heights an amazing view of the city at 555 meters above the ground.
After installing the revolving doors at the 124th floor gazebo, they contacted Boom Edam again to provide entry to the new platform. At this point of vertigo, the demands presented by this entrance were much greater than those of an ordinary building.
They must be able to withstand winds of up to 3,000 pascals or an F3-class tornado, four times more than normal revolving doors have to withstand. For the 124th floor platform, Boom Edam was the only manufacturer that was able to meet this challenge.
With these revolving doors fully operational for five years, Boon Edam was the logical choice when it came to offering these new doors. Boon Edam installed on the 148th floor the same Tourniket revolving doors with special design as those on the 124th floor. However, this new project posed an additional challenge: the transfer of materials from the ground floor to the 148th floor.
The materials had to be first climbed to the 111th floor in an elevator and then transferred to another elevator that would take them to the 149th floor. Then they had to be manually transported one floor down to the 148, where the installation of the door would be carried out.
