The solution has facilitated the detection of thefts and the apprehension of criminals, benefiting the integrity of more than one million monthly visitors on average that this shopping center located in Colombia has.

Commemorating its ten years of operation, the Hayuelos Shopping Center in the city of Bogotá, radically redesigned its video surveillance system, integrating a modern solution composed of cameras from the Swiss company Axis Communications, which allows monitoring and providing effective comprehensive security throughout the 120,000 square meters of the facilities, covering spaces such as public areas, conference rooms, cinema, supermarket and even almost 2 thousand parking lots.
With this implementation, it has been possible to detect situations that were not easy to evidence, such as agglomerations and suspicious displacements, allowing security personnel to go one step ahead of the facts, even increasing the apprehension of people who commit some type of theft.
This system was complemented by the development of new routine procedures in cameras that handle optical zoom and panning, making it easier to monitor areas that were previously exposed.
The successful project was developed by the integrator G4S, who took into account a design adjusted to the needs of the shopping center. The analysis of each of the areas, identifying the requirements and particular security conditions of each space, allowed 15 different models of cameras to be selected, some of which even have 4K resolution, such as AXIS P1428-E, which allows optimal recognition in the access doors, this, without having a high increase in investment.
"We realized that, for a price very similar to traditional cameras, we could count on 4K resolution in the access doors, providing an excellent level of detail and sharpness," explained Nelson Bueno, Operations Manager of Hayuelos Shopping and Business Center.
In other areas, such as parking lots, it was possible to considerably reduce the number of cameras installed, by using models such as AXIS Q6000-E Mk II, which thanks to its full 360-degree view replaces up to 4 conventional cameras. The 4 to 1 savings could also be seen in the M3007-P and M3007-PV mini dome cameras, equipped with a 360 panoramic view and arranged in various areas along the shopping and business center.
In total, for this new video surveillance system, 166 Axis cameras were installed, which are connected to the VMS Milestone software allowing visualization and recording of the images.
"Our client was very clear that they wanted the best in the market, with equipment that provided excellent support; therefore, after the testing and design stage, both they and we agreed to use Axis cameras for the entire project," said Jenny Rubio, Engineer specialized in automation business development at G4S Colombia.
Thanks to the possibilities offered by equipment and cameras, the mall plans to implement, in a next stage, video analytics such as facial recognition and people counting.
