Milestone's new XProtect 2018 R2 video management software update implements hardware acceleration with NVIDIA, enabling lower-cost solutions.
With the second upgrade of its VMS this year, Milestone implements hardware acceleration of the system's recording and mobile server, making it possible to reduce costs, as less infrastructure hardware is required to meet user needs.
Hardware acceleration means that system performance can be improved just by adding a compatible graphics card, which takes care of the heavy processing work involved in the task of decoding the video, allowing the system to perform other tasks, such as video analysis.
In addition, it is possible to upgrade a recording server to take over more cameras by simply adding a compatible NVIDIA card to the server. This requires minimal downtime, requires no infrastructure changes, and improves performance.
It's a much simpler way to upgrade a system's capacity than upgrading to a larger server or adding more servers, and it also paves the way for video analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI).
