Latin America. Javier Díaz Evans, Vice President of grupo A3SEC, affirms that the world has become more digital, every day our productivity depends on the Internet and information systems. In Colombia, an innumerable amount of personal or business data is generated daily. Government and private organizations mostly store data that is stored on a server connected to a network.
But what value can analyzing data have for an organization?
A few years ago, the cost of analyzing large amounts of data was very high and there was no adequate methodology to measure its value, but today there are technological solutions to analyze information from anywhere in the world, becoming an added value of organizations.
In reality, knowledge is invaluable, but the competitive advantages of organizations are supported by acting from the knowledge developed. It is not a particular issue of organizations, the same people develop competitive advantages from actions and teachings of daily experiences.
Generating knowledge from data begins to be a key tool for companies. Efficiently and effectively achieving strategic objectives, knowing customers properly, developing products and services that meet needs and / or reduce operating costs, are some of the achievements of Big Data. There are data management models that are geared towards mitigating risks, identifying and seizing opportunities and operational efficiencies.
The risk model is one of the most implemented in organizations where operations or information with internal or external sources can be evident, managing to identify the occurrence of events that may affect strategic objectives. These models must minimize the subjectivity of people who, due to errors of perception, can make inappropriate decisions when it comes to risk management.
However, many of the errors in risk models are to leave it to people to assess the impact and probability. The use of these heuristics can make us orient the few resources to what is not important. Due to this type of problem, risk models have had problems in their implementation and have lost credibility in the top management of organizations.
In short, the use of Big Data can improve decisions, support entities in achieving objectives, optimize the customer retention mechanism, consolidate all this internal and external information and manage data in a unique way, in addition to managing and optimizing possible risks in business.
