International. ONVIF, the global leader of the initiative for the standardization of IP-based physical security products, has announced the release of the final version of Profile Q, the specification that features quick and easy discovery, installation and configuration of compatible devices, as well as advanced security features.
Profile Q offers immediate functionality for system integrators and end users with an easy-to-start mechanism and basic configuration at the device level, streamlining the installation and connection of systems and devices. Profile Q also supports Transport Layer Security (TLS), a secure communication protocol that allows ONVIF devices to communicate themselves with clients over a network, thus offering protection against tampering and espionage. Profile Q has been in Release Candidate status in order to provide industry review and feedback prior to the final release.
"With the final version of Profile Q, both integrators and end users can expect immediate, fast and easy interoperability between cameras that support specifications and video management systems that support ONVIF specifications," said Steve Dillingham, Chair of the Profile Q Working Group. "Our development of this Profile is a sign of ONVIF's response to whatever the market wants in relation to a more agile installation and operation process when using ONVIF".
