Colombia. With an investment of close to $10 billion (US$3.2 million), the Mayor's Office of Cúcuta, in coordination with the National Government, will put into operation next December 309 sophisticated security cameras to combat crime.
According to the municipal administration, after prioritizing at least 300 points in the capital of Norte de Santander – due to its insecurity rates and the proliferation of criminal activities – the devices will be installed to carry out surveillance and control of public order tasks.
"More eyes to prevent crime and counter crime in all its forms. For the chambers, the municipality invested $3 billion," explained the mayor of Cúcuta, Donamaris Ramírez, specifying that the Presidency of the Republic assisted the project with resources in the order of $7 billion.
According to the projections of the municipal government, the devices will come into operation on December 10.
"It's another encouraging news because more and more our police will have tools to do their job ... these new cameras are in addition to the 54 that already work," added the mayor of the city.
