International. Milestone Systems retains its position as the leading distributor of VMS worldwide – in terms of company revenue – in the new market report published by enterprise information provider IHS Inc.
"For more than a decade, Milestone has maintained its global leadership position in the safety market thanks to the hard and dedicated work of our employees and the thousands of associates we support around the world," said Lars Thinggaard, president and CEO of Milestone Systems.
One of the most important findings of this report is that the demand for products will continue to increase rapidly and that the global market for video surveillance equipment will amount to $15.7 billion in 2015. Price erosion is affecting growth rates, but customer demand is becoming more significant.
"We're not seeing the same level of price erosion in the VMS segment as we are in the camera segment," said Jon Cropley, principal analyst for video surveillance at IHS Inc.
This highlights the fact that the functions of the security management software are the core of the surveillance system, the "brain" of the solution, especially if the one in charge of interconnecting and managing the components of the various providers is an open platform architecture. Milestone's VMS is poised to meet the challenges of the future so that it can expand with innovations in the security market and other enterprise applications.
The use of mobile applications is experiencing accelerated growth, which brings valuable benefits to immediate response teams, security guards, managers or other personnel. Smartphones and mobile technology have been the decisive technologies of the early twenty-first century. These days, about half of the world's adult population owns a smartphone, and by 2020 this number is expected to rise to 80 percent.
"The widespread use of smartphones means that most of us carry supercomputers in our pockets, and the same is starting to happen with the preferences of VMS users," said Kenneth H. Petersen, director of sales and marketing for Milestone Systems. "With the Milestone Mobile client, our company offers the Video Push feature, which allows a smartphone or tablet to act as a mobile security camera, thus incorporating an additional set of virtual eyes in locations where no camera is installed. This feature has been extremely well received in all segments of our customer base, both in low-complex installations with a small number of cameras and in advanced solutions with a large number of cameras."
