Mexico. In the most marginalized urban municipality in the country, according to the Ministry of Social Development (Sedesol), 140 video cameras will be installed in 35 points of the town that will identify the faces of people who commit some type of illicit act, as well as the license plates of vehicles that travel through the main avenues, said Mayor Telésforo García Carreón.
The city council signed an agreement with the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) to carry out the surveillance project in the municipality of eastern Mexico.
The agreement establishes that each monitoring point will have four surveillance cameras: three fixed and one with rotating or panning movements, which will be connected to the Command Center of the Municipal Command.
"The new video surveillance system will also send visual information in real time to the SSC Command Center," said local police director Cristóbal Hernández Salas.
In addition, the agreement between the local government and the SSC includes the homologation of the telephone number of assistance 066, which provides support to citizens in case of emergencies with elements of the police, traffic and municipal civil protection.
The director of the municipal police explained that the installation of cameras will be carried out in a maximum period of three months.
"We project that by the end of December the surveillance network will be ready and that, in January of next year, the Espejo strategy will enter into operation where we will be coordinated with the SSC," said Hernández Salas.
The 35 monitoring points will be added to the 100 surveillance cameras that have been operating since 2012 throughout the municipal territory.
This project is part of the plan announced by the government of the State of Mexico last December for the installation of 10,000 video cameras, 450 kilometers of fiber optics, 3,000 satellite locators (GPS), wireless network and the construction of six regional command controls (C4) in 30 metropolitan municipalities of the Valley of Mexico.
