United States. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is testing body scanners to determine the feasibility of full-body scanning to replace metal detectors currently in use at international airports. To make its introduction acceptable to the public, the TSA noted that the equipment is already used at international airports in the United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Thailand and the Netherlands. In addition, he gave the guarantee that the images will be confidential and will be deleted as soon as the inspection is finished. Despite this, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) criticized the system for the intrusion into privacy it entails. Eight scanners, at an individual cost of $100,000, have already been purchased and more are planned to be installed at JFK airports in New York and Los Angeles.
