Colombia. The Civil Aeronautics of Colombia presented at El Edén International Airport, in Armenia, the new Environmental Air Monitoring Center for the regions, a technological platform designed to strengthen environmental control and surveillance at the country's airports. This initiative is part of the national government's policy of investing in environmental services aimed at sustainable aviation.
The Armenian air terminal will have a monitoring system that is complemented by stations installed in San Andrés, Leticia and Bogotá, allowing variables such as air quality, noise levels and weather conditions to be observed in real time. This data will facilitate operational and environmental decision-making for the benefit of communities near airports.
"Live, we can have access to information, to data to know how four airports initially impact communities, to analyze and make decisions for better well-being. It is a work that in recent years has been materialized by the Directorate of Airport Operations, which today allows this Monitoring Center to be a pioneer in the world," said Colonel Andrés Felipe Vargas, deputy director general of Civil Aeronautics.
The new center aims to lead and implement programs to mitigate acoustic and atmospheric impacts in airport environments, through the use of advanced environmental information tools, aligned with international standards in the aeronautical sector.
The presentation event was attended by representatives of local and departmental entities, such as the acting mayor of La Tebaida, Jorge Rincón; the Secretary of Government of Quindío, Carlos Arturo Ramírez; the director of Planning, Diego Ramírez; delegates from the Chamber of Commerce of Armenia, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Quindío (CRQ) and the National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA).
Aerocivil pointed out that this development positions Colombia as a benchmark in strategic environmental planning of air transport, with a tool that allows recording, analyzing and reporting environmental data in real time from the main airports of the country.
