Latin America. Faced with the danger of massive outages in the coming months, experts in the electricity sector have warned that Mexico is experiencing increasing pressure on its energy system, motivated by high temperatures and a shortage of reserves. In this scenario, interest in energy storage systems increases, particularly in industrial, commercial and residential areas.
According to information from the sector, the Operating Reserve Margin (MRO) could decrease to 3% between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., which constitutes a critical limit that raises the probability of extended interruptions of the electricity service. This scenario is aggravated during heat waves, such as the one recorded between May 14 and 21, which has already generated scheduled cuts in various regions.
The economic impact of a potential energy crisis is significant. According to the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry of Mexico (Index), "for every hour without electricity, losses of 200 million dollars are generated in the country." The supply disruption would affect strategic sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunications, health, logistics and food.
In response, the market has started to focus on safe and sustainable energy solutions. Within these, backup generators and battery storage systems are considered a strategy to ensure continuity of operations, particularly in sectors with essential processes.
One of the companies that has expanded its presence in this field is Generac, which has reinforced its offer with specific solutions for the residential, commercial and industrial segments. The firm has pointed out that "in the residential segment, it promotes automatic gas backup systems that ensure continuous power during outages", and that for the commercial sector it has "started the local production of equipment, speeding up delivery and better adapting to the needs of the market".
In the industrial area, Generac works with large-scale projects that incorporate high-performance equipment, along with comprehensive solutions and battery storage technologies, aimed at sectors such as telecommunications, manufacturing, construction and data centers. The company has reported that it currently produces around 600 MW per year in Mexico, and that it has infrastructure to scale its capacity to more than 1,000 MW.
In line with this approach, Generac participated in Expo Eléctrica Internacional 2025, where it presented its latest energy solutions:
Low-Mid Power Industrial Line (10 kW–600 kW): SD60 kW Generator
High Power Industrial Line (740 kW–3100 kW): Generator MLY2000 kW
Microgrids and battery storage
Mobile Solutions: Link Tower, GLT-4 (made in Mexico) and GMM150 mobile generator
Residential and commercial gas generators: (7.5 kW–150 kW)
Laptops: IQ5200 and GP9500E Trifuel
Portable Power Stations: GB1000 and GB2000 with Solar Panel
