Details 22 May 2018 ![](https://www.ventasdeseguridad.com/images/stories/VDS/users/sjaramillo1/gran_salvador.jpg)*El Salvador.* The cameras would be installed in the western area of San Salvador, with the help of the Korean Agency for International Cooperation (Koika), announced the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Mauricio Ramírez.

He also added that the devices are very useful for citizen security, intelligence and investigation work carried out by the police.

He explained that, currently, there are about 700 video surveillance cameras in various strategic points of Greater San Salvador, which have served to solve cases such as the murder of journalist Karla Turcios, whose crime was solved through the seven cameras that followed the path of the alleged perpetrator.

The Republic of Korea, like the United States, is collaborating in the aforementioned project that began with 50 cameras, in 2011, the official recalled.

The municipalities of Apopa, Cuscatancingo, Mejicanos, Ayutuxtepeque and Soyapango, were incorporated into the video surveillance project that seeks to reduce the incidence of crime in key points of these territories, Ramirez said.

In total, 208 cameras were installed that will be connected to more than 700 that already work in different parts of Greater San Salvador.

The devices have software that allows the reading of plates and automatic crossing against the list of vehicles with theft report, as well as analytics and forensic analysis of videos: colors, sizes, counting of people, cars and pattern tracking.

The amount for this video surveillance project also includes the installation of fiber optics for better performance, authorities said.
