TPE is composed of two terminals, each receiving almost half of the passenger traffic. A comprehensive transportation system has been established within the airport to move passengers between the terminals and to/from the airport. This system consists of trains, buses, taxis and the People Transportation System (PMS), better known as Skytrain. For the unmanned transport system a high-quality safety system is required. Skytrain is a fully automated train system between the two TPE terminals. Construction of the PMS was initiated by the Civil Aeronautics Administration in 1997 and was subsequently completed under the collaboration of China Engineering Consultants Inc., Niigata Transys Co., Ltd., of Japan, and Taiwan Rapid Transit Corp. The PMS was formally inaugurated on 18 January 2003. The PMS consists of 2 parallel tracks, north and south, each with a bidirectional service. A single car serves the northern track, and is reserved only for airline passengers. The southern track is available to airline passengers and the public, separated by platform dividers between cars. Due to the increasing annual number of passengers using the PMS, safety inside cars has become a crucial issue for this unmanned transport system. - Publicidad - In this sense, TPE commissioned Apogear, a distributor of Vivotek products in Taiwan, and Integrator System Plustek the task of designing and implementing a solution that responds to the security and protection demands of TPE. Taking into account the immense flow of people in the context of an international airport, as well as the fact that surveillance in mobile environments requires specialized products, Apogear and Plustek formulated a complete mobile solution that includes 10 Vivotek cameras with state-of-the-art technology. Several hardware and software comparisons were made to identify the ideal device for this scenario, and the Vivotek MD8562 mobile dome network camera passed all set benchmarks and all tests in its category. Thus, the MD8562 model was selected for surveillance in the interiors of Skytrain. The MD8562 is a dome network camera designed specifically for mobile applications, such as trains, buses and other vehicles. This camera absolutely meets all the anti-shock and anti-vibration criteria of the EN50155 standard. The camera is housed in an anti-vandalism (IK10 rating) and airtight (IP67 rated) cover, making it ideal for operating under drastic weather conditions. In addition, this camera has a 2-megapixel CMOS sensor capable of capturing Full HD 1080p video at 30 FPS and is compatible with H.264, MPEG-4 and MJPEG compression technologies in real time, which allow to achieve sharp images while reducing file size and preserving network bandwidth. The fixed wide-angle lens and WDR Pro technology exponentially increase the field of view and the ability to capture minute details in extremely bright, extremely dark or fluctuating lighting environments. All this makes the MD8562 mobile dome network camera ideal for surveillance in the interior spaces of Skytrain system cars. Sandy Huang, Product Manager of Plustek, stated that "since the implementation of the new surveillance system in August 2014, there has been a tangible improvement in safety and security in the PMS. The cameras installed in each of the train cars integrate seamlessly with the airport's network video recorder to produce crisp, unobstructed images.
