The Santander Universities Global Division, responsible for the project, estimates that it will issue thousands of contactless payment cards to students over the next 12 months. This innovative system represents the evolution of the Smart University Card, which has already been widely adopted in 12 countries, in more than 200 universities and by 5 million users. Thanks to this system, Santander Universities will be at the forefront of the market, offering new contactless technology accompanied by financial and academic functions. It is estimated that the contactless EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) payment market will grow by leaps and bounds in the country. S Santander is the first bank in Brazil to issue personalized contactless EMV cards produced in the country. It has also been placed in an excellent position to expand more advanced payment programs, such as through the cell phone using contactless NFC technology. In addition to the speed and convenience offered by contactless payments, Brazilian students will still be able to enjoy the features of their smart university cards, such as EMV security, digital identification, strong authentication and access to university facilities.
