Due to the high rate of fires that occur in Vitoria, the PNV in the City Council has proposed to install smoke detectors in approximately 5000 homes for the elderly. This measure includes those who receive assistance from the Home Help service, users of the "telealarm" and those elderly who reside in buildings without accessible fire-fighting measures.
The nationalist spokesperson in Social Services, Nerea Melgosa, explained that there are about 150 domestic fires a year a year, sinister in which the elderly represent the most fragile group. Source: *Europa press*
